DESCRIPTION:The current snow cover gives us a great opportunity to safely burn some brush piles. We’ll be burning the pile that’s built up over the year at the Thoma Preserve. While the pile burns down\, we can add to it by carrying previously cut brush from other smaller piles. Because it’ll be chilly in the morning\, but looks to warm up throughout the day\, this event will be planned for 1 pm instead of our usual start time of 9! \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: CLCF’s Thoma Preserve from 1-3 PM on Thursday\, December 11. Parking is available at the corner of Birchview Rd and County Highway Z\, West Bend\, WI 53095. Because this area is in the road right-of-way\, it is not plowed\, so please feel free to park along the road shoulder on Birchview Rd as well. \n\n\n\nBring: Because we will be burning\, please wear natural fibers (denim\, wool\, cotton) as your outer layer! Synthetic fibers and synthetic blends such as nylon or polyester will melt if any embers land on them. I’d also recommend taller boots or gaiters to keep the snow out. DESCRIPTION:Thank you to everyone who helped with the berm last week! We made such great progress. Despite the winter chill that moved in over the weekend\, we still have one berm left to complete. Luckily\, this one is smaller! The workday will consist of rolling out coconut fiber erosion matting over the surface of the berm and staking it down. I’m confident we can complete this project this week before any significant snow cover. DESCRIPTION:We will be doing a special Stew Crew  on Tuesday\, November 4th! If you’ve driven Highway 144 by Big Cedar Lake\, you may have noticed some construction happening on the Weninger field\, directly south of CLCF’s Rudorf Farm on Division Rd. CLCF has been working with Washington County to put in three berms to slow water runoff into the lake just across the road. These berms will slow the water and release it at a controlled rate\, allowing more time for it to infiltrate into the ground\, therefore reducing sediment load into the lake. \n\n\n\nThe berms are already complete\, so now we just need to put on the finishing touches. We will be spreading a native seed mix and then covering the berm with coconut fiber erosion matting and staking it down. Be advised this event will include a lot of bending down to put the stakes in the ground. Any help is appreciated\, even if you can’t stay the whole time. \n\n\n\nThis workday will be TUESDAY\, November 4th from 9-noon. Please meet in the Rudorf parking lot at 5036 Division Road\, West Bend\, WI 53095. \n\n\n\nThis is a great chance to be part of a project that will have noticeable impact on the water runoff into Big Cedar Lake.
