SUMMARY:David Mickelson: Geology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed. This event has reached capacity. We encourage you to check out CLCF’s other upcoming events. \n\n\n\nCLCF’s Nature Series sponsored by the Ziegler Family Foundation in Memory of R.D. Ziegler is excited to host David Mickelson\, Emeritus Professor of Geoscience\, Geological Engineering\, and Water Resources Management at UW–Madison. \n\n\n\nSouthwestern Wisconsin\, the Driftless Area\, was never glaciated and its deep valleys and narrow ridges result from millions of years of stream erosion. About 25\,000 years ago glaciers covered more than two thirds of what is now Wisconsin\, creating the glacial landforms we see today. The 1000-mile trail across Wisconsin highlights many of these Ice Age features. This talk will explain the formation of moraines\, kettles\, outwash plains\, drumlins\, eskers\, and tunnel channels using slides of modern glaciers as well as many photos and maps from Wisconsin.

SUMMARY:Stew Crew
DESCRIPTION:This will likely be our last workday doing tree planting maintenance at CLCF Timmers! The front and back fields are done and now we just have the middle section to fix up tree tubes on these young trees. \n\n\n\nThe morning will consist of re-attaching tubes to stakes\, brushing out any debris that has accumulated in the base of the tree tube\, or hammering in stakes that have gotten wobbly over the winter. I’ll bring some more new stakes and tubes for any trees we come across that are missing one.  \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: Thursday April 23rd from 9-11 AM at CLCF’s Timmers Property. Park along the road shoulder on Timmers Bay Rd\, West Bend WI 53095. This is just to the east of 5151 Timmers Bay Rd if you want a reference point to put in GPS. \n\n\n\nBring: A pair of work gloves. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact CLCF Stewardship Manager\, Sarah\, at smoore@theclcf.org.

We will be pulling this invasive species from the same areas we’ve been working on in the past\, in order to maximize the effect of our efforts. Parking is available in the gravel lot at 4214 Sleeping Dragon Road\, West Bend\, WI 53095. \n\n\n\nBring: A good pair of work gloves. SUMMARY:Stew Crew
DESCRIPTION:This Thursday we will be back at Fox Hill Nature Preserve to continue our work of pulling Garlic Mustard out of the understory and making space for the native species.  \n\n\n\nEagle-eyed members of this mailing list may have noticed that we had Stew Crew last week as well. Pulling invasives is just so satisfying that we will be breaking the typical Stew Crew schedule for Garlic Mustard season and hosting additional workdays (still on Thursday mornings) until the Mustard goes to seed and we cannot pull it without risking scattering more seeds everywhere. I predict this will be mid/end of June. You can tell when the seed pods are all dried up and brown that they’re ready to scatter and we should stop pulling for the season.  \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: Thursday\, May 14 from 9-11 AM at Fox Hill Nature Preserve. Park at 4214 Sleeping Dragon Road\, West Bend\, WI 53095\, which is approximately half a mile east of Highway NN. \n\n\n\nBring: A pair of work/gardening gloves.  \n\n\n\nHope to see you there and feel free to reach out with any questions or further directions to find the parking lot. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact CLCF Stewardship Manager\, Sarah\, at smoore@theclcf.org.

SUMMARY:Stew Crew
DESCRIPTION:We are at approximately 35 bags pulled of Garlic Mustard so far! It has been an amazing effort\, and I’m glad we got a head start with the early spring. We are going to be taking a break from pulling at Fox Hill and head over to the Wiebrecht property. This 8.5-acre parcel is home to a loop of neighborhood trails and plentiful wildlife. Stew Crew hit the Garlic Mustard and Dame’s Rocket (now flowering as well) hard here last year\, so let’s keep the momentum going! \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: CLCF’s Wiebrecht Property on Thursday\, May 21 from 9-11 AM. Parking is available along the road shoulder of Oak Lodge Rd\, just south of the intersection with German Village Rd\, West Bend WI 53095. If you need any help finding where to park\, please reach out. \n\n\n\nBring: Work gloves and long sleeves. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact CLCF Stewardship Manager\, Sarah\, at smoore@theclcf.org.

SUMMARY:Walk & Talk: The Weninger Property
DESCRIPTION:Join CLCF and Washington County Conservation Staff for a guided walk through CLCF’s Weninger Property. Get a firsthand look at and learn all about the newly constructed berms on the property\, also known as Water and Sediment Control Basins (WASCOBs). \n\n\n\nThe berms are raised mounds of earth with a drainage system that run perpendicular to the slope. They slow down and temporarily store water as it flows downhill during rain events\, which allows sediment to settle before the clean water is gradually released through underground outlets. The implementation of these berms was funded by the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program\, after the property was purchased in August 2024\, with funding from Washington County’s Conservation and Heritage Grant Program and CLCF supporters. \n\n\n\nCLCF’s Nature Series is sponsored by the Ziegler Family Foundation in Memory of R.D. Ziegler. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is required as spots are limited. Stay tuned for parking information.
