SUMMARY:Greg Septon: "The Recovery\, Management and Future of Wisconsin's Peregrines"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for CLCF’s Nature Series presentation featuring Greg Septon’s overview of Peregrine Falcon recovery efforts in Wisconsin between 1987- 2026. Discussions include recovery methods and approaches utilized in the creation of an urban nesting population along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Also covered will be nest box designs\, urban nest site management issues and resolutions\, band returns\, dispersal of hacked and wild-produced falcons\, nesting chronology\, prey species\, overwintering\, environmental contaminants and the role of electric power generating plants in the recovery of the population. The reoccupation of historical cliff eyries along the Mississippi & Wisconsin Rivers\, the Door Peninsula and the Apostle Islands will also be covered. And finally\, we’ll take a look at what the future may hold for the Peregrine Falcon in Wisconsin. \n\n\n\nSepton has special interests in endangered species recovery programs and environmental conservation efforts. For the past 40 years he has directed and managed a successful and expanding urban Peregrine Falcon recovery effort in Wisconsin and has banded nearly 1\,600 wild-produced peregrines in the state. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Office of International Affairs\, he also implemented an urban Peregrine Falcon recovery program in Russia and was involved with initiating a similar program in Poland. \n\n\n\nCLCF’s Nature Series is sponsored by the Ziegler Family Foundation in Memory of R.D. Ziegler. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Stew Crew
DESCRIPTION:CLCF had the great opportunity to exchange some native prairie seeds with Hawthorne Glen Outdoor Education Center in Milwaukee. These swaps allow us to increase the number of species and spread genetic diversity around the local area to help our prairies thrive.  \n\n\n\nWe will be spreading these seeds in the prairie as well as continuing our seed collection efforts. These seeds can be collected using just your hands and a ziplock bag\, no special tools required. \n\n\n\nFor a change of scenery\, we’ll be collecting at the Hembel-Lidington Preserve. This property recently had the Ice Age National Scenic Trail routed through it\, and contains a diverse prairie enrolled in CRP\, “The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)\, administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA)\, is a voluntary program that encourages agricultural producers and landowners to convert highly erodible and other environmentally sensitive acreage to vegetative cover\, such as native grasses\, trees\, and riparian buffers”. \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: CLCF’s Hembel-Lidington Preserve on Thursday\, October 22\, from 9-11 AM.  \n\n\n\nPark along County Road NN near the northernmost Ice Age Trail sign and gravel pull-off (you can ignore the no parking sign for today!) along the wide road shoulder. If you do not want to park along the road\, reach out to me for an alternative parking option. \n\n\n\nBring: Work gloves if you would like them. We will be walking off-trail in the prairie\, so suitable pants and shoes are reccommended. \n\n\n\nHope to see you there! \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact CLCF Stewardship Manager\, Sarah\, at smoore@theclcf.org.
