SUMMARY:Walk & Talk: The Weninger Property
DESCRIPTION:Join CLCF and Washington County Conservation Staff for a guided walk through CLCF’s Weninger Property. Get a firsthand look at and learn all about the newly constructed berms on the property\, also known as Water and Sediment Control Basins (WASCOBs). \n\n\n\nThe berms are raised mounds of earth with a drainage system that run perpendicular to the slope. They slow down and temporarily store water as it flows downhill during rain events\, which allows sediment to settle before the clean water is gradually released through underground outlets. The implementation of these berms was funded by the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program\, after the property was purchased in August 2024\, with funding from Washington County’s Conservation and Heritage Grant Program and CLCF supporters. \n\n\n\nCLCF’s Nature Series is sponsored by the Ziegler Family Foundation in Memory of R.D. Ziegler. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is required as spots are limited. Stay tuned for parking information.

SUMMARY:Stew Crew
DESCRIPTION:We will be doing our last Garlic Mustard pull this Thursday\, back at the Wiebrecht Property. \n\n\n\nThe seedpods are still green\, likely due to the very cool spring and summer we’ve had so far\, but the leaves are starting to turn yellow and fall off in a process called senescence. It’s a really interesting evolutionary strategy where plants begin to re-assign nutrients to their fruits and seeds (or storage structures like tubers or roots) and away from the rest of the plant before it dies to ensure reproduction or growth next year. \n\n\n\nFollowing this event\, we will be going back to the regular Stew Crew schedule of every 2nd and 4th Thursday. \n\n\n\nWhen & Where: CLCF’s Wiebrecht Property on Thursday\, June 25th from 9-11 AM. Parking is available along the road shoulder of Oak Lodge Rd\, just south of the intersection with German Village Rd\, West Bend WI 53095. If you need any help finding where to park\, please reach out. \n\n\n\nBring: A pair of work gloves. \n\n\n\nHope to see you there\, and thank you all for your help this Garlic Mustard season! After this event\, I’ll tally up the numbers and give the final report. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact CLCF Stewardship Manager\, Sarah\, at smoore@theclcf.org.
