This week we’ll be back out at the Thoma Preserve, removing woody invasive species in the prairie. We’ll also be working on some new species as well- Ash and Box Elder are both aggressively growing (but native) species, and so we want to clear these around our Oaks and Hickories that are coming up in the prairie to avoid them outcompeting these slower-growing trees. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with ID-ing these species, we will point them out!
We will be cutting these small woody plants with loppers and treating the stumps with a stump killer to avoid any future resprouts.
When & Where: Thursday July 10th, 9-11 AM at the Thoma Preserve. Parking is available at the corner of Birchview Rd and County Highway Z, West Bend WI 53095.
Bring: A pair of work/garden gloves. We will be out in the sun so dress appropriately and wear sunscreen! The biting black flies are out this year, so a bug net or a good bug spray is recommended.
