Stew Crew
January 8 | 9:00 am – 11:00 am
This week, Stew Crew will be removing Japanese Barberry, an invasive shrub, from the Wiebrecht Property. Japanese Barberry can be spotted by its spiny stems, bright red berries, and tiny spoon-shaped leaves. The spiny stems make it easy to ID this time of year, and most of the plants growing in this population will be small enough to cut with hand pruners.
We will be cutting these small shrubs off at the base and treating the stumps with an herbicide to prevent resprouts. The Wiebrecht Property has very little Buckthorn and Honeysuckle, so preventing the Barberry from getting a hold here is a huge step for this property.
When & Where: CLCF’s Wiebrecht Property on Thursday, January 8 from 9-11 AM. Parking for this property is on the road shoulder along Oak Lodge Rd, just south of its intersection with German Village Rd, West Bend WI 53095. Map below.
Bring: Some thick work gloves. If you have a tear-resistant coat (basically anything other than a puffer jacket) this would be a great week to wear it. If you have a favorite pair of hand pruners or loppers, feel free to bring them along.
