The Hembel-Lidington Property contains approximately 135 acres of conserved farmland, wetland, prairie, and mature hardwood forest. It also provides approximately 1.5 miles of Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The Trail will take you on a journey through this beautiful landscape.

This property is covered in a variety of species; large oaks and maples dominate the woodland while wild indigo and coneflowers can be seen blooming in the prairie.

Walking the Ice Age Trail on CLCF’s Hembel-Lidington Property will immerse you in nature and show off the very best of what the kettle moraine has to offer.

History

CLCF purchased the first portions of the property in 1995 and subsequently placed deed restrictions on these parcels. Further purchases of land were made in 1999 and 2010. These purchases were partially funded by a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Land Management Protection Grant, a DNR Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Funding Grant, and through funding from the Big Cedar Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District.

After the initial purchase, CLCF worked with Washington County to install a stormwater retention pond, berms, and native plantings on the property with partial funding from the DNR Wisconsin Nonpoint Source Water Pollution Abatement Program. CLCF volunteers also planted trees on the property in 2001 that can still be enjoyed today.

Parking

You can access the trail via the Polk Kames State Ice Age Trail Area parking lot at 4695 County Hwy NN, Slinger, WI 53086.
